Oh man, if I had a nickel for every time I was asked “What’s the best diet?” or “what plan do you follow?”
And I get it. As a holistic nutritionist, this is naturally the thing that people would expect I’d have the answer to.
And I do have an answer…. But it might not be what you expect.
Are you ready?
There’s no best diet.
And I don’t follow an eating plan.
I practice Intuitive Eating. I eat all foods (other than meat but that’s just my own moral preference); I eat what I want, when I want and as much as I want.
I don’t ever count a calorie or macro. I don’t avoid carbs, sugar, gluten or alcohol. I don’t track anything. I don’t have cheat meals or save my treats for after a cardio session.
I choose foods that make me feel healthy, energetic, and satisfied; but I don’t worry about whether I will lose or gain weight. For me health is a feeling; a state of being – not a number on the scale.
I will NEVER EVER recommend a diet or any particular way of eating to a client ever again.
Because they don’t work.
It is proven that 95% of people who lose weight by restricting food (whether it’s called a diet or not) will gain the weight back in 1-5 years.
And every time that weight is lost and regained, it causes damage to the metabolism and puts you at risk for long term health consequences. (see this article from WebMD).
My own personal experience, along with my work with clients has brought me here.
I’ve been very open on social media about my own struggles with weight loss and body image over the years. I’m thankful to have reached a place of body neutrality and peace with food and exercise.
Being thin does not equal healthy. In fact chasing thinness can actually cause more harm than good.
I believe in Health at Every Size and I’m here to help women make peace with food, have fun with exercise and embrace the body they have through mindful self-discovery.
If you’re ready for something different, book a discovery call with me and we’ll chat about how we can work together.
