Unapologetic Eating with Alissa Rumsey, RD
Excerpt:
Food is our lifeblood and eating is one of life’s greatest joys and yet it can seem so complicated.
Everyone has an opinion on what is “good and bad”; the “healthiest” way to eat; what is the right amount to eat and even who is allowed to eat certain foods without guilt and shame. Our culture is obsessed with food rules and as such leaves us feeling pressured, confused, guilty and ashamed if we don’t or can’t conform to them.
On this week’s episode, I am joined by Alissa Rumsey RD and author of “Unapologetic Eating”. During our conversation, Alissa discusses the political and cultural roots of our fat-phobic society obsessed with food rules and thinness.
We discuss how our relationship to food is a metaphor of our relationship with ourselves, and that once we make peace with food our lives are transformed t as a result
Alissa explains how letting go of the rules and diets, in favour of an “unapologetic”, intuitive eating style allows us to step into our individual power and focus on what we were put on this earth to do.
What you’ll learn by listening:
- How food can be a powerful entry point into exploring more about ourselves, our beliefs, our values, and what we truly want out of life.
- How to tell if you’re eating style is indeed a diet.
- What intuitive eating is and how is it different than other approaches to health and nutrition
- What exactly is meant by “unapologetic eating”
- Discover the oppressive nature of dieting and how being unapologetic with our eating is actually a political move
- Why it’s important to have a system of support as you heal your relationship to food and self
