Tune in as we kick off a series I like to call “Fitness Motivation Sayings that are Anything But”.  This week we’re exploring “embrace the suck”.

Like most of the fitspo mantras, embrace the suck is something that’s said in an attempt to motivate us to get the work done.  But is it really motivating?  I don’t think so.

Saying something like this to yourself, might result in you completing the workout… but it only reinforces the belief that exercise DOES suck, and that it HAS to suck in order to be effective… and the only way to experience any benefits from exercise is to use willpower and just do it.

Our thoughts are very powerful, but believing such negative things about exercise will never create the positive feeling of intrinsic motivation.  Nobody sticks to something long term that they think sucks.
