The Joyful Movement Show is now The Power In Motion Podcast

Hello there! I’m Kim Hagle, your resident size-inclusive fitness specialist, non-diet nutritionist, and body image coach. If you’re expecting to find The Joyful Movement Show, guess what? You’re in the right place. We’ve just got a new name, a fresh coat of paint, and an energizing mission. Welcome to The Power in Motion podcast.

You might be wondering about the sudden shift. Why the name change? It’s been a bit of a journey for me, filled with personal reflection, self-coaching, and grappling with thoughts and feelings about the podcast.

In earlier episodes, I’ve been honest about the struggle to generate content. A significant part of this challenge stemmed from not trusting my creative process. I finally discovered that traditional ways of creation, like staring at a screen from a desk, aren’t for me. Being in motion and interacting with nature set my creativity free. I took to recording while hiking or using voice-to-text while out and about. This small change has been a massive help in establishing a smoother creative flow.

But there was another factor that bothered me: the title. The Joyful Movement Show, in my opinion, cornered me into primarily discussing exercise and movement. Even though I did delve into nutrition and body image—because they’re all part of a bigger picture—the title felt limiting. It didn’t fully encapsulate what the show was about.

The Problem with “Joyful Movement”

That brings us to the term ‘joyful movement,’ which I’ve been wrestling with lately. For some people, it’s confusing or even misleading. It burdens those who already have a complicated relationship with physical activity, making them feel pressured to find joy in movement all the time. This is far from my intention.

Joyful movement, to me, isn’t about constantly chasing a euphoric, runners’ high sensation. It’s about feeling connected to your body, deciding autonomously how to move, and appreciating what your body can do. However, I’ve realized that this understanding isn’t common, and it’s causing confusion.

It's ok if you don't always find movement joyful. You're not doing it wrong

Movement, in reality, is much like eating. Sometimes, it’s a sensual experience where you’re enraptured by flavors and ambiance. Occasionally, movement can feel this thrilling, too. But, more often, eating—and movement—are just regular parts of life. Eating is about satisfying hunger, and movement is about taking care of your health, with benefits realized down the line. It’s not always exhilarating, and it doesn’t have to be.

I’ve grown to view movement as intentional. I choose to participate not because it elicits joy, but because it’s in my best interest. It’s a topic we’ll dive deeper into in future episodes.

Everything Starts and Ends with Mindset

So, with all these revelations, the old title just wasn’t clicking anymore. I found myself at a crossroads: should I wrap up the podcast or reignite my passion for it? Truth be told, despite all the struggles, I love podcasting. I love sharing what I’m learning, discussing complex topics, and challenging your perspective. I genuinely enjoy serving my audience in this way, providing support and help freely. So, quitting was not the option.

I knew I had to figure out how to make this experience fun and interesting again. This led to a profound exploration of my values and mission. My mission is twofold: help all women experience the life-changing benefits of movement, and free women from body image hang-ups, empowering them to do amazing things in the world. This mission drives me, and it’s the legacy I want to leave behind.

While I believe that I’ve done a good job advocating this mission on The Joyful Movement Show, I felt the need for a more accurate representation. Hence, The Power in Motion Podcast was born.

Power in Motion – What to Expect

Power, as defined by Martin Luther King, is the “ability to achieve purpose and effect change”. That’s exactly what I want to help you develop. Inspired by Brene Brown’s concept of sharing power and inspiring people to cultivate their inner power, my goal is to help you tap into your potential, make autonomous decisions, and contribute meaningfully to the world.

So, what does this look like moving forward?

Yes, we’re still going to talk about movement. It’s my realm, my passion, and my heartbeat. I am a staunch advocate for a more inclusive, accessible fitness industry. I want to emphasize that fitness is not about aesthetics, body shaping, or weight loss, which only seems to undermine the true benefits of exercise—improved mental health, better mobility, increased strength and stamina, and so on.

I became a trainer 12 years ago with the goal of helping people live healthier lives. Over time, I’ve realized how the fitness industry’s fat-phobic messaging has ironically deterred many people from leading a healthy life. The emphasis on appearance over wellness can be alienating and harmful. So, I am here to emphasize that fitness is for everyone. It’s not about looking a certain way—it’s about finding a form of movement you enjoy and reaping the myriad benefits that come with it.

In addition to movement, we will continue to talk about food. Nutrition and movement are inextricably linked, and there’s so much misinformation out there about how we should eat. My aim is to provide guidance on how to eat in a way that supports your health and well-being, without the restrictions, rules, and guilt that often accompany dietary advice.

Last but not least, we’ll continue to delve into body image, because the struggle with food and exercise is often a symptom of a deeper issue. A belief that your body is somehow ‘wrong’ or needs ‘fixing’ can lurk behind motivation struggles.

Power is the ability to achieve purpose and effect change. Martin Luther Kin

In conclusion, the Power in Motion Podcast is a manifestation of my mission to empower you to live your best life. It’s about reshaping our perspectives on fitness, body image, and overall well-being. I’m excited about this new journey, and I can’t wait to share all that lies ahead. So stay tuned, and let’s power up for this exciting journey of transformation together!
